Arizona African American Health Information Services

The African-American Community Health Coalition is federally funded by the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. The health coalition is a program of the Arizona Opportunities Industrialization Center. The name of this project is AAAHIS - Arizona African American Health Information Services.

Our mission is to improve the health status of the African-American communities of Maricopa County, which are disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Substance Abuse and TB: by establishing and providing a ccess to culturally sensitive prevention, care and treatment of services, through community collaboration.

Goals

  • Identify service needs in the African American community with an emphasis on HIV, STD, substance abuse and primary care.
  • Strengthen existing services for African Americans.
  • Coordinate and link services across providers.
  • Create a master plan of action for services that are needed and not provided.
  • Assure that planned or existing services and providers are culturally appropriate /competent.
  • Objectives

  • Develop a coalition involving the community, core agencies, the local health department and faith based communities.
  • Develop a community needs assessment for Maricopa County.
  • Develop a detailed plan of creating and maintaining a linked network of services for the targeted community based on community needs assessment.
  • Implement the plan for the linked network of services.
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for sustainability of the coalition.
