Course content
Communication
Learn communication skills through writing and
organizing outlines and presentations. Group participation, which requires good
articulation and voice projection.
Keyboarding
Student learns about formatting letters, setting margins,
tabulating, aligning, proofreading, speed and accuracy-through A.I.M.S. exercises.
After which, they do intermediate typing, which teaches business formatting exercises.

Filing
Alphabetical, numerical, geographic filing, cross-referencing
and follow-up. (with final and review)
10-Key
Addition, subtraction, division, percentages, and interest by
touch. (Skill builder and final)
Computer Literacy
Student learns: to boot up the computer; available software
and hardware; input, output and storage devices; the system unit and user components;
how to access directories and sub-directories.
DOS
Disk formatting; tree functions; making, removing, displaying
directories, sub-directories and files. Disk checks for faulty disks and disk copy
operations. (with review and final)
Switchboard
Multiple line management of incoming calls, directing lines to
proper connections, while greeting clients and outgoing personnel.
Windows
An introduction to the Windows Desktop; operating system; working
with graphical user interface; my computer window; windows explorer; properties;
formatting disks; building folder structures; managing and searching for files;
managing your printer, copying, moving, exchanging and sharing data. Icons; mouse
management; windows tutorial; sizing, moving, formatting, embedding and linking
objects; saving and renaming files; how to control the window environment through
default or custom settings. The student learns to dominate Windows, Settings, and
other Accessory Programs (with final and review)
Microsoft Word
Developing a document; using menus and commands; using the Font
Dialog Box; viewing large documents with the Zoom Control; manipulating multiple
documents; working with leaders, indents and hanging indents; using the spelling,
grammar checkers, and thesaurus; merging documents; creating and printing mailing
forms; creating newsletters; working with graphics; using WordArt; embedding and
linking objects; an introduction to desktop publishing; using menus and
commands.
Microsoft Access
An introduction to database; the structure of an access database;
designing, defining and modifying a table, query, form or report; setting fields,
properties, primary keys, and Input Masks; adding, deleting, renaming, and replacing
data; using wildcards and expressions; updating tables; creating calculated fields;
adding graphics to forms; designing, customizing, developing, and organizing data
groups.
Microsoft FrontPage
An introduction to web page design: the page, folders, reports,
navigation, hyperlinks and task views; viewing web pages on a browser; organizing web
pages, using common page elements; using navigation and shared borders; using transition
effects; relative or absolute URLs; applying or creating custom themes; creating
tables; using images within a web page; understanding image properties; using graphical
page elements and creating and inserting a hit counter.
Desktop Publishing
An introduction to desktop publishing: the file and edit menus;
dialog boxes; fonts and points; font and line styles; justified text; paper size and
orientation; regular, balanced and parallel columns; view modes; add and edit text and
creating the underlying structure of a document.
Excel
An introduction to spreadsheets: working with budgets; worksheet
cell and range; labels, values and formulas; relative, mixed and absolute cell
references; column widths and row heights; insert and delete rows; the AVERAGE and IF
functions; linking data between two worksheets; work with split worksheet window and
adjust margin, headers and footers.
Internet
An introduction to the Internet: its history; Internet addresses;
Internet services; E-mail; sending a message with an attachment; Internet organization;
Telnet; downloading files; Gopher; search engines; Netscape Navigator and bookmarks.
Resume Writing
Occupational focus; relevant educational history-pertinent work
history-conciseness, accuracy-neatness.
Interviewing skills
Dress, posture, articulation, discourse, politeness, crispness.
