Adult Basic Education

Areas for development are determined by pre-test results, objectives, training interests and dot code requirements.

Each participant arrives at the Learning Opportunities Center with his/her counselor and preliminary documentation (Initial Assessment Form; Individual Service Strategy). The Initial Assessment Form, the primary instrument most often accepted in the Learning Opportunities Center, determines the type of services arranged for a participant.

Each section on the Initial Assessment Form establishes the following:

  • Vocabulary pre-test score
  • Reading pre-test score
  • Math-Computation pre-test score
  • Math-Concepts and Application pre-test score
  • Language-Mechanics pre-test score

  • Participant’s Combined Reading Level
  • Participant’s Combined Math Level
  • Participant’s Combined Language Level
  • TABE Forms utilized
  • TABE Levels utilized
  • Section III

  • Previous work history
  • Identifies each Company
  • Defines each position’s job description
  • Catalogs dates positions were held
  • Section IV

  • Classifies Educational Background
  • Specifies Interest and goals
  • Summarizes Life Circumstances
  • Describes an assessment of barriers
  • Establishes Short range goal
  • Establishes Long range goal
  • Section V

    Categorizes types of services arranged

  • TOT (PEWM)
  • ABE (Adult Basic Education)
  • TCS (Skills Training)
  • TJS (Job Search)
  • Section VI

  • Identifies explicit training interest
  • Lists the position’s DOT (Dictionary of Occupational Titles) Code
  • Lists and determines the DOT code requirements for math, reading, and language competencies
