What is
the AAAHIS?
The Arizona African American
Health Information System is a
program of the Arizona Opportunities
Industrialization Center (AZOIC). There
are three components of AAAHIS:
The African American
Community Health Coalition
The Linked Network
of Services, and the toll free
Information Help
Line
What is a Health
Coalition?
The Community Health Coalition
through community partnerships seeks
collaboration with local organizations,
community groups, small businesses,
members of the faith based community,
legislators, public officials, consumers,
and individuals to address the health
care needs of African Americans. Our
mission is to improve the health status
of African Americans in Maricopa County
who are disproportionately
affected/infected by HIV/AIDS,
STIs, Tuberculosis, and Substance
Abuse.
What does a
Linked Network of Services (LNS) do?
The LNS is a
comprehensive web based computerized
health information system building
together providers of services, in formal
agreements, to cooperate and develop
improved access to, and health outcomes
of people using the services. The LNS
allows partners in the health coalition
to refer, track, and provide services to
clients while maintaining client
confidentiality. Our goal? For African
Americans, individuals, organizations,
and communities to readily access
prevention, treatment, care services and
information in Arizona through the use of
this system.
Whats
the Information Help Line?
The Help Line is a
toll-free telephone number allowing
potential clients to call for service
referrals after regular hours. The Help
Line will serve as an information source
and liaison between agencies, consumers,
and the community to establish effective
ongoing communication.
AAAHIS is a part of the National Minority
AIDS Initiative targeting services to
ethnic, racial, and underserved
populations. Therefore, AAAHIS targets
African Americans, but does not exclude
anyone, and is openly available for use
by all citizens in Maricopa County, and
eventually plans to include all citizens
of Arizona. All organizations providing
HIV/AIDS, STIs, TB, Substance Abuse
prevention, treatment, and care are
invited as members into the health
coalition, and the linked network of
services. The health coalition works
closely with the Arizona Department of
Health Services, Maricopa County
Department of Public Health, City of
Phoenix, planning and decision bodies,
communities, churches, community and
neighborhood based organizations,
consumers, community leaders and other
service providers.
