Attendance
Students are expected to treat the Arizona Opportunities Industrialization Center classroom as a job site, with the same attention paid to attendance. Instructors refer to students’ work records as part of their referrals to employers. A student absent from class more than ten percent of the time, who has excessive tardy reports or three absences without contacting the instructor, will be withdrawn from class but will be awarded a certificate for the highest level of competencies achieved to that point. Re-entry, if approved, would include a plan of action to correct the attendance or tardiness, and probation.Dress Code
The Arizona Opportunities Center requires students to dress appropriately and safely for their environment: work boots, long sleeves, no loose clothing where it would be a hazard, uniforms when working in the health care setting; business outfits in an office setting.Standards of Progress
Students are evaluated by how well they can perform the skills needed for their certificate, rather than given grades, at the Arizona Opportunities Industrialization Center. They’re considered to be making satisfactory progress toward completion of their program if they are achieving the specified competencies at a reasonable pace in line with student averages.Being punctual and having good attendance is part of the performance criteria.
Students who, within the first two months of class are making below average progress, with a poor likelihood of employability in the field, will be counseled. When appropriate, students can transfer to another program with documentation from the sending and receiving instructors, counselor and sponsor, if needed.Student Conduct
Students are expected to follow OIC attendance and satisfactory progress policies, as well as to develop work ethic and other skills outlined below. Disciplinary action will be taken against persons who violate the standards listed or state and federal laws. Students, staff and visitors are expected to treat the learning environment as a job site and to show respect for others and property at all times.Competency Lists
Each course description has a list of the skills or “competencies” included in the training for each certificate. These are available from the instructor, counselor or administration.Graduation
All students who complete the required competencies for a level of training will receive a Certificate of Completion.Lifelong Learning
Arizona OIC is committed to the philosophy of “lifelong learning” and encourages students to learn entry-level skills, and to develop the ability and desire to expand on these skills throughout their lives.Work Ethic
Requirements for completion of an Arizona OIC certificate include items of skills, knowledge and work ethic. Work ethic includes attendance, punctuality, and the ability to follow instructions, observe the work rules, work with others, work when unsupervised, and complete a job on time.School Hours
Arizona OIC students are expected to attend scheduled classes from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday; except for holidays; unless other arrangements have been discussed and approved by the instructor and counselor.Disciplinary Standards
The Governing Board and its agents—administration and faculty—are granted legal authority to regulate student life subject to the basic standards of reasonableness. In developing responsible student conduct, the Arizona Opportunities Industrialization Center prefers counseling, guidance, admonition and example. However, when these fail to resolve problems of student conduct and responsibility, appropriate disciplinary procedures will be followed: Misconduct for which students are subject to disciplinary action fall into the following general areas:- Cheating on an examination, laboratory work, written work (plagiarism): falsifying, forging or altering college records.
- Action or verbal statements which threaten the personal safety of any instructor, staff, student or others lawfully assembled in the facility, or any conduct which is harmful, obstructive, disruptive to or interferes with the educational process or institutional functions.
- Violation of Arizona statutes, and/or Center regulations and policies.
