Programs


The Learning Center instructors solicit business and industry recommendations to keep their training relevant. Industry representatives provide work experience sites, hire graduates, demonstrate new procedures, offer field trip opportunities and serve on the Advisory Committee.

GED Preparation Course

The Pre-Employment Work Maturity course prepares participants to enter the world of work. Pre-Employment Work Maturity consists of two parts where the first section, Pre-Employment, addresses job search preparation and the second section, Work Maturity, addresses job retention.

Adult Basic Education

The Adult Basic Education Program at Arizona OIC is an amalgam of individual tutoring, group work and a Comprehensive Competencies Program (CCP) from US Basics. The CCP is a self-paced computer graded course. Workbooks complement the tests from which the students work. The three areas that are covered in Adult Basic Education are Reading, Mathematics, and Language.

Administrative Office Skills

Computerized Office Procedures is intended for students aiming to work in an office using a wide assortment of clerical skills. Participants are inducted in office procedures and how clerical staff support the business practices of a department/firm and its personnel. We prepare students for office positions in a large or small company and in government offices or in schools. Competency, attitudes which promote job retention, and appropriate communication skills are stressed throughout. The use of the computers is a major part of this program. Students may enroll with or without any prior experience with a typewriter or computer keyboard. Those who can test at an intermediate level may begin with the more advanced activities and complete the program earlier.

Job Placement and Counseling Services

Arizona OIC’s main objective is to assist clients with identifying, obtaining, and maintaining employment. Client will meet with a qualified employment specialist who can assist client with specific job seeking needs. Our staff is available to provide clients with any or all of the following, based on needs and desires:
  • Preparing a resume
  • Learning and/or practicing interviewing skills
  • Problem solving strategies/options for handling your specific issues.


Youth Services

Arizona OIC has effectively organized and implemented the youth programs which serve eligible youth, ages 14-21, who reside in the City of Phoenix. Arizona OIC youth programs have provided services to more than 9,250 disadvantaged youth. We have provided youth exposure to career fields that offer opportunities for advancement.

Pathways Out of Poverty (POP)

The Pathways programs will provide training and job placement for individuals seeking careers in the energy efficient and renewable electric power industries in Arizona. To participate you must be 18 years or older, and live within the predetermined boundaries. Applicants must either be an ex-offender, currently unemployed, a high school dropout, or low-income based on City of Phoenix LLSIL guidelines. Priority will be given to applicants who are Veterans or eligible spouses of Veterans.
