Arizona OIC Staff with Arizona’s
Governor Brewer at Arizona State Fairgrounds Veteran Memorial Coliseum. The Arizona StandDown, is Arizona’s
largest outreach event for homeless veterans. The 2010 Arizona StandDown
was held on February 5, 6, & 7th 2010.
What is the Arizona
StandDown?
StandDown is a military term that
refers to a brief period of time where a soldier can leave an active combat
zone to rest and regain strength before returning to battle. Every
day as many as 200,000 homeless veterans are battling life on our Nation’s
streets; 6,000-7,000 right here in our state, half of whom reside in
Maricopa County.
The Arizona StandDown provides 3 days of respite and shelter
for homeless veterans each year with the goal of assisting homeless
veterans in meeting their long-term needs and entering housing and
treatment programs that will lead to their successful reintegration into
the community. Arizona StandDown 2009 served 743 veterans in a single
weekend!
